ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Matt. The owner of Tass Romsey.

I have been in the TV trade for over 30 years.

I was City & Guilds trained at Southampton Technical College from 1988 onwards, then started full time work soon after with the original TASS shop in Bournemouth Road, Chandlers Ford (which opened in 1976)

This was a large detached shop with a workshop at the rear.

Upstairs was and office and stock store rooms.

As well as my college training, I learnt a lot from the 4 engineers who worked there.

In the early 90's the Tass owners opened a second and very modern retail shop in the heart of Chandlers Ford.

I left TASS for a few years in the late 90's and then worked for a company called       Sure-View Television, which like TASS was a successful retail shop with a workshop at the rear of the premises.

The biggest and different part of that business was that it had a very large TV & Video rental base, with hundreds of TV's & VCR's scattered around the Southampton area on rent. Based in Bassett, Southampton, it was very near to the University. So we dealt a lot with the students too.

Supplying them TV's and small electrical appliances for their 'digs.'   So September was a particularly busy time for us!

 

As TV's & Video Recorders became less expensive and more reliable, the TV rental market slowed down (as it did across the whole country) and the owner retired.        Sure-View TV closed after 30 years of trading, (I resurrected the name , with slight logo changes from Sept. '21.  See my 'Sales-Used' page) and I returned to TASS.

TASS Chandlers Ford then closed in 2011, but a few years earlier myself and a colleague formed a business partnership and started Tass Service in Winchester.

We've now split that into two separate businesses. One still in Winchester, covering the north of that area and down to Eastleigh.

I cover Romsey and large parts of the Test Valley.

TRADE QUALIFICATIIONS

​

The City & Guilds qualifications I have are -

General Electronic Servicing, 1988 &

Radio & TV Servicing parts 1 & 2, 1989 - 1992

​

As well as the C&G qualifications, I've had technical and product training with major manufacturers  -  JVC, Hitachi, Pioneer, Sony and Loewe.

​

I undertook a CD & Audio Servicing course, also at Southampton Tech. College in 1994

​

From 2004 - 2014 I was one of the very few authorised repair/service agents in the south for the prestige German brand Loewe.

Due to Loewe's restructuring around 2013/14, they joined a recently formed repair company called NOISE UK Ltd, which were a nationwide firm dealing with many manufacturers.

I would have to join NOISE if I wanted to carry on servicing Loewe products (and many more of them) and would have to attend more Loewe training courses. Often being away from home for several days at a time.

I thought long and hard about this, but

I wasn't prepared to join NOISE as this would drastically reduce me dealing with my private individual customers with less family time too.

So I decided to leave  Loewe UK support in 2014.

I have lived and worked in the area all my life.

Here in Romsey for close to 25 years and in Winchester prior to that.

Over half my customers are people I have dealt with before and have used and trusted Tass for many years.

Many come to me from word of mouth. Recommended by people who I've carried out work for in the past.

 

I pride myself in my work and enjoy it on a daily basis.
